Hello! How are you? I have been thinking about grief and the grieving process. There are many reasons for grief, not just for our loved ones who are no longer with us in physical form, but I will focus on this aspect. As a medium I communicate with Spirit. This includes our loved ones, people and beloved animals, who have transitioned to the spirit world. I learn from them directly about the “other side”. I know life continues in a new form when we leave our body, and our loved ones really are around us and available. But grief, whew, it’s still a big one. I notice how people grieve differently. I notice those people who choose to grieve publicly and let others grieve with them because I am the opposite. There is no right way or wrong way. It is personal. I don’t even know that it is a choice. I am not a grief expert. I applaud the people who are and do amazing work to help so many. One would think I know what to say to people when they lose someone. I don’t. I’m not going to say what I know to be true because it may not be helpful when the loss is recent, and other sentiments feel cliché sometimes. My grieving process is a private one. I don’t like to talk about it, and I don’t like to hear stories about the person or animal when I am raw. Death was and is a natural topic and is easily discussed in my family. I have lost so many people in my life beginning at a young age and most often with no goodbye. This surely informs my deep, private grieving. Why am I writing about this? Grief is a part of life because we love. I think of you, my clients, the people who trust me with your loss, grief, and the honor of connecting to those you love most. It is a responsibility I take very seriously. It is my hope to understand what you need in your grieving process and help you with it. Your loved ones share stories with you and teach me what happens when we leave this earth. Amazing! I don’t have all the answers about grief. I do know how cared for, loved, and supported you are by those who are dear to you and even those who are not known to you – think ancestors – and don’t forget your beloved pets. They stay with you too. I know this to be true. However your grieving process works, honor it. There is no right way to grieve. Please continue to find a way to live well through and with the pain of loss. Your loved ones and pets really do want this for you. It gives them joy.
