How are you doing? It’s story time this month. I recently traveled to Boston to meet my Adventures With Spirit podcast partner, Jessica, for the first time. I spent the week with her and her husband, who is under medical care. It was a good break in their routine, and let me tell you - we worked all week. We have some exciting plans to share soon. But that is not part of this story. I extended my visit to catch one of my favorite bands, Aerosmith, in their hometown on their 50th anniversary tour. They were playing the classics on this set and were honestly amazing. I don’t know how they still do it like they do, but I was one joyful person. I went by myself to the show. I walked from my hotel to Fenway Park. It was a 1.5-mile straight shot down the road. But the real story starts after the show. I left the stadium out of a different gate than where I entered and put my hotel address in my phone to follow. As soon as I walked out of the stadium, I knew it was taking me the wrong way. I was in a throng of people, so I followed the crowd and watched the map on my phone get very confusing to me. We were herded for a while through one-way areas and then reached a street where everyone turned left, but my map said to go right. No one I was walking with was headed to my destination—you know I asked—so I turned right and followed the map. Now, I am walking alone somewhere in Boston on dark streets, and I know intuitively this is the wrong way. I became uncomfortable enough to message my daughter, who lives in LA, and sent her my map so she could follow me on her phone. She was out at a show by herself, too. Like mother, like daughter. She tried to call me to help with the map, but I couldn’t hear her over the crowd on her end. Anyway, I had her eyes on me. Thank you, Lauren! ♥️ I continue, following the map. Did I mention that I am not good at directions? I will not bore you with a play-by-play, but I remember each step and what each new street looked like. I was walking and walking and getting farther away and isolated. The map said 1.5 hours to my hotel. My phone battery was low. I was a bit scared. By this time, there is a dark park area on my left, and I am the only one around, and I know this is just not smart. Now let me be clear, because this is the point of this story, I knew with all of me I was safe. I knew it. Yes, I called in all the angels – a couple of Archangels, my Guardian angels, and more. Let me paint the picture for you: a woman in her 50s walking alone, clutching her concert tee, wearing a back brace, talking to herself (not really, I was talking to the angels and my Spirit team). A woman who happened to grow up in a place where she knows better. The conflict was between my inner voice and my head. My head was screaming at me, while my inner voice said, “You are safe.” Did I mention I was assaulted twice when I was in my 20s? There was a lot going on for me in this hour. Let’s just say that. Here is the cool part, and I paid attention. Every time I reached a point where my head was taking over and I was feeling panic, a person would show up. A person who would let me walk with them for a bit or knew the area and told me I was headed the right way. It was angel magic and showed up just as I needed it. After listening to my intuition a few times and following the angel reassurance, I arrived at an intersection, and I knew where I was. That was where I was supposed to come out in the first place! It was so close to the stadium. There were still concert goers walking and police directing traffic. I walked up to an officer in total relief and said, “I am happy to see you!” He stopped what he was doing and looked at me and replied, “Well, I don’t often get a reaction like that. You are safe now. Do you know where you are headed?” What a statement. Just what I needed to hear. And don’t you think for a moment that Archangel Michael wasn’t talking to me. I heard him. Archangel Michael is the protector angel and, yes, I was walking with him intentionally. He is also the patron saint of police officers. Get it? At this point, I still had the original 1.5 miles to go. But I knew where I was, and it was a straight shot. I returned to my hotel around midnight. I called Lauren to let her know I arrived safely and to tell her if she ever found herself in a similar situation, she’d be in big trouble with me. Do as I say, not as I do! Are you wondering why I didn’t call an Uber? According to the map, I could walk faster than an Uber could pick me up, and I didn’t want to stand there waiting. I kept moving, past the men in the park drinking, past the rats running in front of me, past the fear in my head. I kept walking, sometimes jogging, trusting the safety inside, following the helpful people sent to me, and trying to quiet my mind. I held on to my concert tee, you know that! Lauren bought it for me. She wanted to return the joy of all the concert merch I have purchased for her through the years. So sweet. It’s a great T-shirt. I have it on now coincidentally. Just in case I lost you, I will summarize the concepts: Angels guided me home safely. I asked for them, and they showed up. They even sent people to comfort me. I knew from my inner voice before I even left I didn’t charge my phone, when I made a wrong turn, when to cross the street at a certain point and avoid a dicey situation. I knew to keep walking, sometimes to jog, and most importantly, that I was safe and would be safe. I heard my scared head voice, but I trusted my inner voice. I didn’t try to pretend I wasn’t super uncomfortable even though I knew I would be okay. I will admit my joy subsided that night. But it came back! The show was so good I wish I could fly to Vegas to see them again while in residency. 🤘
